Panasonic Announces New 50-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens

The new 35mm camera equivalent super 50-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens from Panasonic, full name, LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 50-200mm F2.8-4.0 ASPH, comes in as the third lens in the light-sensitive f/2.8-4.0 Leica-Zoom series, built for Micro-Four-Thirds cameras.

As with the other lenses in the series the new 50-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens takes advantage of Panasonic’s Nano Surface Coating technology, which promises to minimise ghosting and flaring, along with a tough, dust and splash-proof body which can perform in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius.

The new lens gives a range of 100mm to super telephoto 400mm [35mm equivalent] which makes it a great choice for those shooting wildlife to indoor sports, and even portrait photography with the 1.4x Teleconverter DMW-TC14 1 extending the focusing distance to 560mm [35mm equivalent] and the 2.0x Teleconverter DMW-TC20 2 to 800mm for close-up shots.

Stabilisation

The lens’s native POWER O.I.S. [Optical Image Stabiliser] offsets hand movement, making it easier to capture the best shots even without the use of a tripod. It works with Dual I.S.3 [Image Stabiliser] and Dual.I.S.2 4 when mounted on Panasonic LUMIX G cameras.

When coupled with a Lumix G camera with the capacity for a maximum of 240 fps sensor drive, the user can take advantage of high-speed, high-precision Contrast AF. It will also serve to decrease wobbling. As a result, the new lens shines when used for video capture.

In addition to the silent operation achieved by the inner focus drive system, the micro-step drive system in the aperture control section helps the camera to smoothly catch up to brightness changes when zooming or panning.

Pricing and availability

The new 50-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens from Panasonic will be available from the end of May, and will be priced at £1599.99.
