Canon has revealed the arrival of two new and reasonably priced full-frame RF lenses, the RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM and the RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM.

The new Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM and RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM boast the same optical tech and compact design and are both compatible with canon’s mirrorless EOS R, EOS RP and EOS R6. They will also work with Canon’s new APS-C models, the EOS R7 and EOS R10.

RF 24mm f/1.8 MA Key Features

The new Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM is an image-stabilised lens with an f/1.8 maximum aperture and a circular 9-blade aperture.

The weight of this new lens comes in at just 270g and has a gear-style STM motor that Canon claims ‘enable fast and quiet focusing in a small form factor’. It has a minimum focusing distance of just 14cm [0.5x magnification].

The RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM is loaded with a customisable Lens Control Ring enabling fine-tuning of the ISO, aperture and allowing users to switch between AF modes. The lens information is displayed to offer even greater focusing assistance and with 11 elements in 9 groups, the RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM uses super spectra coating that is claimed to control ghosting and flare. The lens utilises a 5-stop Optical Image Stabiliser which increases to 6.5-stops of Coordinated Control IS when used alongside an EOS R series body featuring In Body Image Stabiliser.

RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Key Features

The new Canon RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM has a 5.5-stop Optical Image Stabiliser which allows for longer shutter speeds when shooting hand-held. When used with a Canon EOS R body featuring In Body Image Stabiliser, it’s possible to get up to 7 stops. The lens weighs 390g and it features a compact and robust design.

The lens employs a leadscrew-style STM focusing motor so that it can rapidly focus on fast-moving objects. The quiet motor is also well suited for shooting moving images.

The new optical design of the RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM features aspherical and precision moulded elements and lens coatings and a combined Focus and Lens Control Ring allow users to control settings without having to take an eye away from the viewfinder or screen.
