Kodak Ektachrome Film Rises From the Ashes in 35mm & Super 8 Formats
Incredible news from the world’s biggest consumer electronics show as Kodak announce the return of the beloved chrome slide film
Kodak Alaris, the most recent incarnation of the iconic Kodak brand, so far as everything film and photo-printing is concerned, have announced at the mammoth tech show, CES 2017, that it will be reintroducing the iconic Kodak Professional Ektachrome Color Reversal Film in 35mm format photographers later on this year.
The film has an incredibly distinctive look that was the choice for generations of photographers before being ditched back in 2012. Known for its fine grain, clean colours, excellent tones and contrasts, became iconic in no small part due the extensive use of slide film by National Geographic Magazine over many years.
The significant resurgence in analog photography has built sufficient demand for new and old film products and sales of professional photographic films have been rising steadily over the last few years.
Dennis Olbrich, President, Kodak Alaris Imaging Paper, Photo Chemicals and Film told PhotoBite: “Film is our heritage and we remain committed to meeting the evolving needs of today’s film photographers. We’ve been listening to the desires of photographers over the past few years and ultimately decided to bring back a color reversal film. In assessing the opportunity, Ektachrome was the clear choice.”
Kodak Professional Ektachrome is a colour positive film, also known as “reversal,” “slide,” or “transparency” film. Unlike all of the other Kodak films available today, which are colour negative films, Ektachrome generates a positive image that can be viewed or projected once it is exposed and processed. This makes it ideal for high-resolution projection.
further to this and also during CES, The Eastman Kodak Company announced the reintroduction of Kodak Ektachrome Super 8 Film to support its recently introduced Super 8 movie camera.
