Sony Reveal Large Format CMOS Image Sensor with the World’s Highest Pixel Count of 127.68 Megapixels

Sony has revealed plans to release a best-in-class large format 56.73mm diagonal CMOS image sensor, the ‘IMX661’, which boasts the industry’s highest effective pixel count at a massive 127.68 megapixels!

Developed primarily for industrial equipment, the sensor, which will be available sometime in April 2021, features an increased pixel count that yields an optical size nearly 10 times larger than the average 1.1-type image sensor. It also boasts Sony’s innovative global shutter pixel technology “PregiusTM”, which enables motion distortion-free images and high-speed image readout at a data rate that’s almost four times quicker than regular products. Impressive stuff, huh?
